© Nothing Declared creator Brandon Niles Cox is an avid traveler with a dream of inspiring and helping others reach epic reach off beaten destinations. Working as a leader in the aviation industry, a travel consultant and sommelier. Nothing Declared focuses on adventure travel, international conflict research, photography, and the wine we enjoy along the way.
This site features detailed travel tips, how to guides, photography and informative short stories on rarely visited part of the world. The world is remarkably accessible, and we all need guidance on how to efficiently get there!

Brandon has spent over 120 months in 180+ UN countries on all 7 continents as an avid traveler, independent international conflict researcher, author, and photographer.

Currently he lives with his wife Emily in Amsterdam, NL having recently moved from London, UK. Brandon has worked as a leader specializing in building joint ventures and alliances, revenue & inventory management, pricing, capacity optimization and network management. He worked for the Coca-Cola Company after graduating from Georgia Tech studying Industrial Engineering, Management and Marketing. He has studied at Oxford University, as well as in Australia, France, New Zealand and Japan. His passion for adventure travel and conflict resolution began on a sporadic excursion from Japan to South Korea in 2003. Since then, his research has taken him to all 7 continents, over a hundred countries through over 40 active conflict zones. He has produced and directed documentaries in Ukraine, and researched conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, and Somalia during a 9 month overland journey through Africa from South Africa to Jordan and back.

Hotel Uzbekistan has been looming over Tashkent since 1974, and it's exactly as intense as you'd expect from a Soviet-era concrete tower.This brutalist giant was built after the massive 1966 earthquake leveled the city, so they made it earthquake-proof. Basically a fortress pretending to be a hotel.The wildest part? Rooms came with rotary phones that connected straight to the KGB. As a child, I watched James Bond with my dad and seeing him visit these obscure corners of the world as though it was nothing...this inspired me, and made them seem reachable somehow.There is a Bond where he walks through the Peninsula’s entrance — soaking wet from just swimming through the harbor. Calm as ever, like walking into his home, but not quite. That scene stuck with me. Home anywhere. I filmed iside the domes of Mosques in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan.They aren't just beautiful—they're engineering marvels from the 14th-16th centuries. The honeycomb structures you see are called muqarnas, and they took master craftsmen years to complete, placing each tile by hand.The geometric patterns aren't random. Islamic art traditionally avoided depicting figures, so mathematicians and artists developed incredibly complex geometric designs instead. Each pattern represents the concept of infinity and divine order.The blue tilework—particularly famous in cities like Samarkhand and Bukhara—used crushed lapis lazuli and other minerals. The Timurids perfected this technique, creating domes that could be seen for miles across the desert.What strikes me most is how these structures have survived centuries of earthquakes, wars, and weather. The craftsmanship is next-level.Standing underneath, you realize these weren't built to impress tourists 600 years later—they were built as acts of devotion, meant to last forever
