Pyongyang Subway Mysteriousness A surprising highlight of our journey was the Pyongyang subway, which was both exciting and mysterious. Only in North Korea is the subway thrilling.  At 110 metres (360 ft) it’s one of the deepest in the world, apparently designed to double as a bomb shelter.  The station was bustling with people as […]

The Giant Buddas of Bamyan, Afghanistan (built in The Giant Buddas of Bamyan, Afghanistan (built in 550 AD) were destroyed by dynamite over several weeks, starting on 2 March 2001😢

The destruction was carried out in stages. Initially, the statues were fired at for several days using anti-aircraft guns and artillery. This caused severe damage, but did not obliterate them. During the destruction, Tlb Information Minister Qudratullah Jamal said that, "The destruction work is not as easy as people would think. You can't knock down the statues by dynamite or shelling as both of them have been carved in a cliff. They are firmly attached to the mountain."Later, the Tlb placed anti-tank mines at the bottom of the niches, so that when fragments of rock broke off from artillery fire, the statues would receive additional destruction from particles that set off the mines. In the end, the Tlb lowered men down the cliff face and placed explosives into holes in the Buddhas. After one of the explosions failed to obliterate the face of one of the Buddhas, a rocket was launched that left a hole in the remains of the stone head.

In an interview, a TLB leader gave an ostensible explanation for his order to destroy the statues:
"I did not want to destroy the Bamiyan Buddha. In fact, some foreigners came to me and said they would like to conduct the repair work of the Bamiyan Buddha that had been slightly damaged due to rains. This shocked me. I thought, these callous people have no regard for thousands of living human beings—the Afghans who are dying of hunger, but they are so concerned about non-living objects like the Buddha. This was extremely deplorable. That is why I ordered its destruction. Had they come for humanitarian work, I would have never ordered the Buddha's destruction."

This is Afghanistan? Band-i-Amir, National Park📍

Unbelievable colors and views over Band-i-Amir national park💧
The first in Afghanistan it was just established in 2009🇦🇫

A series of intensely blue lakes created by natural dams high in the Hindu Kush.

Band-e-Amir is a chain of six lakes in the mountainous
desert of central Afghanistan. The lakes formed from mineral-rich
water that seeped out of faults and cracks in the rocky landscape.

Over time, the water deposited layers of hardened mineral (travertine) that built up into walls that now contain the water.

According to the Wildlife Conservation Society, who helped the Afghan government set up the park, Band-e-Amir is one of the few travertine systems in the world.

Was fortunate to meet these men on the road from K Was fortunate to meet these men on the road from Kabul to Bamyan. They are members of an almost extinct nomadic group called the Kuchi, whose tribes have pursued a migratory life herding livestock for centuries, supplying famous Afghan staples from kebabs to carpets. Their colorful clothes and woven tents are an iconic symbol of Afghanistan. Three decades of conflict have left the Kuchis extremely vulnerable, unable to claim the protection of local commanders as they wander a fragmented country.
